Seven 54 Cafe Bar

Yesterday I had the pleasure of visiting the newly renovated Seven 54 Cafe Bar in Didsbury to try out their new menu.

Opened initially in 2004 as ‘The Deli’, the space was opened as an Italian coffee house that later upgraded to a ‘deli’ serving a small breakfast menu. During lockdown, The Deli became Seven 54- with a complete renovation of the decor and the whole concept. Seven 54 now features a rustic style interior, the light leather booths contrasting with the mellow decor of cream and green hues.

The updated brasserie style menu includes a variety of dishes with global influences, with a number of small & large plates, sandwiches, salads and grill options to select from.

We were greeted and shown to our seats by our lovely waiter, Simon, who was so welcoming and helpful throughout our visit. After a chilled glass of Prosecco, we were given blankets so we could keep warm during the cold Manchester weather! Although, there are amazing heaters above most seats which are fabulous.

Seven 54 has such a good menu- it took us so long to decide what to go for! I opted to try several small dishes as I was in the mood to pick!

The first dish I tried was the Buffalo Buttermilk Chicken with a celery, blue cheese and walnut salad. This was incredible. It had quite a kick to it but the flavours were amazing and the chicken was so succulent!

The salad side was incredible. If this was available as a larger salad I’d have it all the time! I didn’t think I liked celery that much but wow. The celery combined with the flavours of the cheese and walnuts just worked so well. I highly recommend this!

I think Calamari is such a classic - I have it pretty much everywhere I go and I love it. I loved Seven 54’s paprika twist and the presentation was just beautiful. Their Aioli dip was also perfection.

Finally, I chose the Grilled Asparagus with chilli fried duck egg and sourdough toast. This was unreal. Both the asparagus and the egg were cooked perfectly and the sourdough was a lovely touch. I really enjoyed this and would definitely order this dish again!

For dessert, we were happy to take recommendations from our lovely waiters. We opted for the Lemon Meringue & the Tarte de Nata.

The Lemon Meringue was just incredible. Served with a raspberry syrup, the meringue was super light and fluffy. One of the best meringues I have tried if you’re after a slightly lighter dessert!

The Tarte de Nata is a Portuguese inspired dish consisting of vanilla and lemon custard. It was cooked fresh earlier that day by Seven 54’s Leandro so we were excited to try this.

It did not disappoint. Again, it was really light but full of flavour. I also loved the presentation and the vanilla ice cream worked really well.
