5 feel good books to read during lockdown!

I’ll be honest, since about 6 months ago I wasn’t a huge fan of ‘chick lit’ books, or to be honest, any kind of books that aren’t thrillers! I usually read a lot of thrillers and, save for my book club selection that month, I rarely deviate from this! However, 2021 brought with it another lockdown and thanks to the English winter weather, I’ve found it really hard to stay completely positive. For this reason (I think) I’ve not been as interested in reading thrillers and have found myself leaning more towards feel good, uplifting books. Let’s face it, everyone needs a bit of a boost right now!

Here are 5 books I’ve read this month that I have loved and that have left me feeling much more positive afterwards!

I read this as it was my first book club pick for 2021 and I really wasn’t sure what to expect. Wow, this was everything! I adored Veronica and found her so loveable (even her initial grumpiness)! Her prickly nature soon unfolds and it unraveled into one of the cutest books I’ve read! It honestly melted my heart - particularly the penguin scenes!

If you haven’t read this, put it on your list immediately. You won’t regret it!

I’ve heard a lot of hype about this book so it has been on my TBR list for a while so I thought that I would finally give it a read this month. I found Minnie really likeable and sympathised with her throughout the many disastrous situations she found herself in throughout the book.

Usually I find it really confusing when a book switches between periods of time, finding myself flicking back through the book for clarity. However, I found this to work really well in this instance and liked the similarities of surroundings throughout.

This is a cute easy read about friendship, finding your way in life and, of course, love!

Imagine Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory meets Eleanor Oliphant, but better! I fell in love with with this book early on with Don’s strict routine, his love of lists and the way he refers to every task as a ‘project’. As a reader I connected with Don immediately and found myself really hoping that his 'Wife Project' was successful.

This book made me laugh out loud and smile throughout, with its witty descriptions and quirky characters. I found it so heartwarming and loved every minute. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

This book is possibly one of my favourite books I’ve ever read. From the first few chapters I was instantly hooked, wanting to know what happened next.

One of my favourite things about this book is the contrasting characters, particularly how their lives intertwine throughout. It also gave me a reality check that everything isn’t always as it appears. I think too often we compare our lives to the “perfect” ones we see on social media but a lot of reality is hidden behind closed doors. It also shows that first impressions aren't always correct and that we should be open to give people a chance.

This is a real feel good, uplifting book. I didn’t want it to end!

This book is so heartwarming and follows the journeys of a young woman wanting to escape her busy corporate job after a difficult break-up and her grandma, a woman craving excitement and change. What will happen when they switch lives for a period of time?

I read this so quickly and I adored it. I think it was an amazing second book by O’Leary and I would highly recommend it. This is the cosy, uplifting read you’ve been looking for!
