My favourite summer makeup looks

Makeup has always been a love of mine but I've found myself, probably over the last 6-9 months (pre-lockdown) repeating the same makeup looks for ease and to save time. I got lazy with experimenting and trying new looks was a thing of the past. However, thanks to lockdown, I have had a lot more free time on my hands and so one of my favourite things to do has been to practice makeup.

I'm lucky to have had some amazing friends that have kept me sane, organising regular house party video calls and group quizzes, so I've had a reason to dress up a bit and make myself feel good. I've given myself extra time to get ready for these calls and have spent the time trying out new makeup looks I've found on Pinterest, or that have been inspired by some of my favourite makeup artists on Instagram.

Here are 5 of my favourite looks!

Lilac is one of my favourite ever colours so when the whole 'Pastel Eye' trend came about, I really wanted to give it a go. This look is so different to anything I usually do and completely out of my comfort zone but I loved it. It was so summery and I would definitely do this look again.

A sunset eye is one of my favourite looks and probably my 'go to' look. I think it is so versatile and can be very subtle with a simple orange and brown, or more intense with a brighter orange, darker brown contrasted with a burgundy shade. I love the brighter looks for summer so this is one of my favourites for sure.

Eyes:
Maybelline Fit Me Concealer - Shade 10
LaRoc PRO Artistry Book Palette
HUDA Beauty Textured Eyeshadow Palette (Rose Gold Edition)
Morphe x Jaclyn Hill Palette (original)
Pretty Little Thing Lashes - Style Lottie

Okay so this was waaaay out of my comfort zone. Don't get me wrong I love a bit of colour under the eye paired with a smokey brown lid but never would I have thought myself brave enough to try a blue shadow on the lid. But this is 2020... it's a weird year.

I'll be honest - I'm not sure how I feel about it. Half of me likes it, even though I know I would never step foot out of the house wearing it. Half of me still thinks it is way too bold, even by my standards.

I knew that I wanted to do quite a simple look but added a subtle half cut crease at the front to add some glitter. The lighter shimmer also lightened the look for me, as it was looking a little darker than I had initially wanted. I found blue a really hard colour to work with as it doesn't blend very easily (I'm no makeup artist so maybe I should leave this one to the experts).

Sometimes it's just nice to keep it a bit more simple. I haven't sported a red lip for a long time as I much prefer nude but I did enjoy the change. A red lip is perfect for the days where you don't have much time on your hands as the brightness of the red adds something extra to a simple makeup look. I added a gloss too (I've really gone off matte lips atm, anyone else?) and I loved the shine it gave. It also made my lips look huge!

Eyes:
Maybelline Fit Me Concealer - Shade 10
MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Bronzer - Medium Deep (in the crease)
Guerlain Liquid Eyeliner - Shade 01
Pretty Little Thing Lashes - Shade Lottie

Lips:
NYX Suede Matte Lip Liner - Shade Spicy
Nuskin Powerlips - Shade Roar
Nuskin Smile Pop Lipgloss

Face & Brows same as above.

Sometimes you've got to just stick with what you know! This was one of the first eye makeup looks that I learnt when I started experimenting with makeup (I did a couple of 1-1 courses) and it will forever be one of my favourite kind of looks.

Of course, it wouldn't be my favourite without the pop of orange but the gold shimmer and contrasting brown tones make the orange much more subtle. This look is perfect for night out glam or a nice dinner date!
